How can I make an appointment?

Simply call our Highland Office at 845-691-9191 or our Ellenville Office at 845-647-5400 and one of our caring staff will be more than happy to schedule an appointment for you.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

In most cases we can schedule an appointment for you within 1-3 days.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will be approximately two hours in length. You will review various consent's, complete documentation on demographic and identifying information, receive information about your rights, program rules and regulations as well as information on services we provide. Our experienced clinician will provide a thorough assessment and evaluation to help develop a treatment recommendation with our multidisciplinary team.

What can I expect at my second appointment?

During your second appointment our clinician will discuss the treatment recommendation made by the treatment team. If treatment is recommended you will review the schedule, program expectations, be assigned your primary counselor and identify collateral contacts. Starting treatment can be very daunting so our clinician will be able to answer any questions you may have.

What if I only need an evaluation?

Our trained staff use various screening tools to provide professional, legal evaluations that are accepted by surrounding legal agencies, Department of Motor Vehicles and Employee Assistance Programs.

How can I pay for my session?

Step One accepts most commercial insurances and Medicaid including Medicaid Managed Care and Family Health Plus plans. Step One has a sliding fee scale and accepts cash, Master Card, Visa & Discover Card. We also accept personal checks.

What about my insurance company?

Step One communicates directly with insurance companies to verify benefits, request authorizations for our services and submit claims. Some policies have copayments, deductibles and coinsurance which is paid by the insured/client when service is rendered. Please contact your insurance company for more information.

How long will I be in treatment?

Each individual entering treatment will meet with an individual therapist to develop your own personalized treatment plan. Your length of treatment depends on your progress in completing your goals.

Who are your staff comprised of?

Step One’s staff includes psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed masters social workers, licensed mental health counselors & credentialed alcoholism & substance abuse counselors.

Will anyone know about my problem?

All services are confidential. Step One takes our client's confidentiality and privacy very seriously and abide by HIPAA and 42 C.F.R.

What if my member needs treatment, but refuses to come for an evaluation?

You can call to attend the Family Group and/or meet with a clinician regarding actions you can take and supports for you in the community. Step One also provides Professional Planned Interventions.

Can I accompany my family member to the assessment?

Yes and you will be met with the assessment counselor and your loved one for the first several minutes followed by the counselor meeting with your loved one for the remaining duration of the assessment.

What if I want to be a part of my family member's treatment?

We provide a Family Program that is for the benefit of the family member regarding education and counseling. Any family member can request a family/couple's session and the counselor will review this request with the client.

How do I know how it is going for my family member's treatment?

Your loved one would need to complete a consent to release information form and then the counselor can give you updates and invite you in for couples/family sessions.
